This is one of my favorite paintings because the events surrounding this scene didn’t fully come to light to until after I finished the piece. The lady in the rocking chair is the mother of a close friend of mine from childhood. She had fallen down a flight of stairs, punctured a lung, broken several ribs, and needed an emergency blood transfusion to survive. It was a miracle she lived to see another sunrise. In this scene, she is gazing at the glory of God’s creation while listening to her favorite preacher deliver a sermon.
